THE WALKTHROUGH

What Actually Happens in a Free ATP Walkthrough

Thirty minutes, your building, live surface readings you keep. No pitch theater. Here is the appointment, step by step, including what the numbers can and cannot tell you.

Free consultations have a bad name for a reason. Most are a salesperson walking your building, nodding at things, and emailing a quote that night. Ours is a 30-minute appointment built around a measurement, and the number belongs to you at the end of it whether we ever work together or not. Here is exactly what happens, so nobody has to wonder what they signed up for.

Before we arrive

You book a time, 30 minutes, during your normal hours. We ask two questions ahead of it: what kind of rooms you want looked at, and who currently cleans the building. That is it. There is no intake form, no pre-qualification interview, and no request for your current invoice.

Erik does the walkthrough. Not a sales rep, not a franchise territory manager, the owner, with the meter in hand. If you have ever had a slick pitch from someone who would never touch your building again, this is deliberately the opposite of that.

The first ten minutes: your rooms, your priorities

We walk the space together and you narrate it. Which rooms turn over fastest, where patients wait, what got complained about last month, which surfaces nobody is sure ever get touched. This part matters more than it sounds. It decides where we swab, and it usually surfaces the two or three spots that have been quietly bothering you.

Along the way we are reading the building the way a cleaner reads it: floor finish and traffic patterns, the state of the high-touch points, dust load on vents and horizontal surfaces, whether the restroom and the break area look like they share equipment. None of that requires a device. It is just what walking into enough buildings teaches you to see.

The middle: live ATP swabs

Then we measure. ATP bioluminescence testing scores the organic residue left on a surface, the invisible film of skin cells, body oils, food, and biological soil that builds up on everything people touch. A Hygiena UltraSnap swab collects it, the EnSURE Touch luminometer reads it, and about ten seconds later a number appears on the screen. Higher number, more residue. Lower is cleaner.

We swab where it counts, typically five to eight surfaces: door hardware, a check-in counter or reception desk, exam or operatory high-touch points, a restroom fixture, a break-room surface, keyboards or tablets if they get shared. You watch each reading come up. There is no back office, no "we'll send results next week," no chance for anyone to massage a number.

Two things are worth setting expectations on. First, most first-time readings are not close to the standard we hold. Untested high-touch surfaces commonly land in the hundreds, and that is normal, not an indictment of your staff. Second, we will tell you plainly what the number does not mean. ATP measures the cleaning step, meaning residue removal. It is not a disinfection test, it does not detect any specific pathogen, and it is not a compliance certification. Anyone who tells you a swab proves a surface is "germ-free" is selling you something. Here is the fuller explanation of what an RLU score covers.

What the numbers mean when they come up

Context makes the readings useful. Below 25 RLU is the standard we hold our own work to on high-touch surfaces, the tighter end of the range used in cleaning audits. Around 100 RLU is the looser threshold often quoted industry-wide as "clean." Several hundred is where untested, casually cleaned surfaces routinely sit.

So a 340 on your check-in counter is not a scandal. It is a starting line, and now it is a documented one. The interesting question is never the first number. It is whether anybody is measuring at all, and what happens the week after somebody does.

The last ten minutes: scope, honestly

We close by talking through what a real scope for your building would look like: which rooms, what cadence, which surfaces get the clinical treatment versus the general one, and where verification is worth paying for. If ATP verification on a set cadence makes sense for your practice, we scope it deliberately. It is a defined add-on with a real cost, not a phrase we sprinkle on a proposal.

And if the honest answer is that your current cleaner is doing fine, or that your building does not need what we do, we will say so. We would rather be the company that told you the truth in July than the one that sold you a contract you resent by October.

What you keep

You leave the walkthrough with the readings themselves, the surfaces we tested and what each one scored, plus a plain summary of what we observed. It is yours. Take it to your current cleaner and ask them to move the numbers. That is a completely legitimate outcome of this appointment, and it still leaves your building cleaner than it was.

If you do want a proposal, it arrives within 24 hours with the scope we discussed, priced honestly, cancel-anytime after the initial term. Same team every visit. Photo-timestamped documentation after every clean. And a share of every contract we sign goes to Columbus organizations supporting Franklin County youth facing homelessness and poverty.

Who it is for

Dental practices, medical and specialty clinics, med spas and wellness studios, physical therapy and chiropractic offices, and commercial buildings across Columbus, Dublin, New Albany, the Short North, Upper Arlington, Powell, German Village, and the rest of Central Ohio. If you manage a facility where cleanliness is clinical rather than cosmetic, the walkthrough will tell you something you do not currently know.

Thirty minutes, your building, your numbers. That is the entire offer.
