Does ATP testing work the same way in a day care as in a medical office?
Yes. The meter and the swab don't change by facility type, only the surfaces selected. In a day care, that means cubby handles, toy bins, changing table latches, and sign-in stations instead of exam tables and waterlines.
What's a normal ATP reading for a day care surface before any protocol change?
It varies by surface, but cubby handles and shared toy bins commonly read in the 300 to 600 RLU range on a first swab, well above the 100 RLU industry "clean" line and far above our own 25 RLU standard.
Why don't standard cleaning checklists already cover these surfaces?
Most cleaning checklists are written by room, not by touch pattern. A checklist that says "wipe down the entryway" doesn't specify the cubby handle as its own line item, so it gets treated as part of the room instead of the highest-contact object in it.
Is 25 RLU or 100 RLU the standard I should ask my cleaning company about?
100 RLU is the general industry line for "clean." Ask what standard your cleaner actually holds to, and ask them to show you the reading, not just tell you it passed.
